Emulsion Bitumen
The Eco-Friendly Cold Application
Emulsion Bitumen is a liquid product where tiny droplets of bitumen are suspended in water using an emulsifying agent. This allows the bitumen to be applied at ambient temperatures, eliminating the need for heating and significantly reducing energy consumption and hazardous emissions. Once applied, the water evaporates (the "breaking" process), leaving the residual bitumen to bind the aggregates.
Key Features & Applications :
Application Temperature
Applied cold or at slightly elevated temperatures 100∘C.
Classification
Cationic (most common, positive charge) or Anionic (negative charge).
Primary Use
Tack Coats (to ensure adhesion between pavement layers), Prime Coats, Chip Seals, and Slurry Seals.
Benefit
Environmentally friendly (water-based), reduced energy use, and safer handling on site.
